Education & Training

Abena is an experienced Development and Management expert with expertise in design and management of programmes in education, community development, skills training, and volunteer sectors. She has over 15 years of direct management experience implementing successful programmes in most regions of Ghana where she demonstrated continuous professional excellence, proven leadership and management abilities, excellent team building and communication skills and strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills.

Previously, Abena was Country Director for World University Service of Canada (WUSC) in Ghana, where she supported the Ghana Education Service and Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training and a number of private sector actors in various research that led to the design of strategies for girls’ education and Technical and Vocational Training in Ghana. She was also the Country Coordinator for the Uniterra programme, a global volunteer cooperation programme implemented by two Canadian Organization, CECI and WUSC.

She has held positions as the In-Country Manager (ICM) of the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) Programme (2010-2015) at WUSC; General Manager of the Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO).

Abena has passion for youth and gender issues and has been part of the fight against all forms of abuse and discriminations against women and youth. She is also involved in mentoring of young people.
