It is an integrated body of skills, knowledge and experiences to support health institutions\u00a0in\u00a0delivering quality\u00a0services. It is manned by\u00a0the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG),\u00a0a leading\u00a0national\u00a0sexual and reproductive health organization\u00a0with a\u00a0history of almost 50\u00a0years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.16px; line-height: 1.3em;\">PPAG is a Member Association (MA) of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The PPAG Learning Centre Initiative exists\u00a0to provide a range\u00a0of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH)\u00a0training and\u00a0capacity building services\u00a0to Member Associations (MA) of IPPF in the Africa Region,\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0institutions in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HISTORICAL BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the\u00a0International Planned Parenthood Federation Africa Region Office (IPPFARO)\u00a0started a Learning Center Initiative with the objective of empowering stronger IPPF Member Associations (MAs) in the African Region\u00a0to provide technical assistance\u00a0to other MAs.\u00a0The selection of PPAG was based on the Association&#8217;s track record as a lead\u00a0provider\u00a0of\u00a0SRH\u00a0services with the\u00a0potential capacity to be positioned\u00a0as a provider of technical\u00a0assistance in Ghana and to\u00a0other IPPF MAs.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, with support from IPPF Africa Regional Office (IPPFARO),\u00a0PPAG undertook its first major assignment under the Learning Center Initiative concept with the training of 20 Youth Officers from selected MAs and other participants from UNFPA\/Botswana.\u00a0Following this, the operation of the Learning Centre was reviewed and strengthened by IPPFARO through the development of an operational plan\u00a0with the requisite programmatic focus, management structure and systems. Prior to this, the centre was refurbished and equipped with\u00a0state of the art equipments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR VISION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be the\u00a0first\u00a0choice technical resource serving the needs of MAs and other\u00a0health\u00a0organizations to deliver quality sexual and reproductive health services in the Africa Region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR MISSION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To strengthen the institutional, management and technical capacity of MAs and other SRH\u00a0and\u00a0HIV and AIDS organizations through training and technical assistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR\u00a0CORE VALUES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0conduct and performance of the Learning Centre is driven by five\u00a0core\u00a0values\u00a0with the acronym\u00a0<strong>CRANE<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0<strong>C<\/strong>ommitment:\u00a0<em>We meet client satisfaction by staying committed to the trust reposed in us to deliver<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<strong>R<\/strong>eliability:\u00a0<em>We go the extra mile to demonstrate that we are dependable and reliable in meeting deadlines<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<strong>A<\/strong>ccountability:\u00a0<em>We inspire honesty and transparency by standing by our obligations and taking\u00a0responsibility for our actions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<strong>N<\/strong>ovelty:\u00a0<em>We work with the consciousness of innovation and creativity to give our clients\u00a0added\u00a0value.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>fficiency:\u00a0<em>We deliver with\u00a0great efficiency and speed\u00a0to\u00a0remain\u00a0the foremost choice of clients.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Incidentally\u00a0<strong>CRANE<\/strong> is a device with a long arm for supporting something. As a CRANE, we are driven by the passion\u00a0to increase\u00a0the effectiveness of organizations to deliver SRH health products and services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR FOCUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Capacity is\u00a0aptly described\u00a0as &#8216;actions that improve effectiveness of organizations&#8217;.\u00a0The Learning Centre focuses on increasing the\u00a0action areas of\u00a0institutional, management and technical capacity of Member Associations of IPPF and other health-related\u00a0organizations\u00a0to\u00a0improve their effectiveness in\u00a0providing\u00a0quality and sustainable SRH and HIV\/AIDS services.<\/p>\n<p>Primarily the PPAG Learning Centre Initiative\u00a0works\u00a0at building the capacity\u00a0of staff\u00a0and\u00a0volunteers\u00a0of IPPF MAs as well as other\u00a0actors within\u00a0the sexual and reproductive health fraternity in Ghana\u00a0to:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0Gain understanding into the context within which young people&#8217;s needs with regard to SRH \u00a0and Rights are addressed;<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0Gain\u00a0understanding\u00a0into\u00a0the different approaches to SRH youth programming;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0Understand the basic concepts in gender, rights and sexuality to improve youth programming and service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0Acquire knowledge of<strong> <\/strong>the essential package of youth-friendly\u00a0services;<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0To update knowledge and increase skills in the application of a range of strategies, IPPF policies, toolkits and guidelines to assure the quality of youth friendly services;<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0Understand how to promote youth-adult partnerships;<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0Understand how to meet the SRH needs and rights of young people living with HIV;<\/p>\n<p>8. Develop an action plan aimed at integrating gender equity and sexuality using a rights-based approach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR SERVICES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PPAG uses two main approaches to\u00a0deliver a\u00a0range of services\u00a0in support of institutional, management and technical capacity building. These are training and technical assistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Training<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Courses\u00a0are tailored\u00a0to address specific needs\u00a0of clients. The courses\u00a0are offered at the Learning Centre.\u00a0A key feature of the training programme is the development and management of post training action plans which ensures that trainees are successfully followed up to monitor and evaluate their translation of skills acquired and knowledge gained\u00a0on the job.<\/p>\n<p>The training courses\u00a0offered\u00a0includes:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0<strong>Managing\u00a0Youth Friendly SRHR Programmes\u00a0(Modular in nature\u00a0\u2013IPPF and Client Tailored sessions)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<strong>Civic Engagement and Participation in National Development and Youth-Adult Partnerships <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<strong>Project Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<strong>Advocacy and\u00a0Partnership Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0<strong>Documentation and Management Information System (MIS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0<strong>Financial Management and Accountability<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0<strong>HIV\/AIDS, STI\u00a0Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Peer Educators training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Technical Assistance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Based on expressed needs PPAG undertakes technical assistance missions to provide hands on technical support in addressing challenges confronting the implementation capacity of\u00a0IPPF MAs and other\u00a0organizations in Ghana. The range of services provided under this approach includes:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0Mentoring and Coaching<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0Monitoring and Evaluation<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0Marketing, Resource Mobilization and Sustainability Planning<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0Management Information Systems\u00a0(MIS), Financial, Administrative\u00a0and Human Resource)<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0Strategic Review and Planning<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0Governance and Leadership\u00a0Development.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0Partnership development<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0Project management<\/p>\n<p>9. Proposal development<\/p>\n<p>10. CSE, Peer Educator and other technical manuals&#8217; development<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR TRAINING FACILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Learning Center operates in a serene environment located at Latebiokorshie in Accra. The facility is made up of a training hall with state of the art training equipment, syndicate rooms and offices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR\u00a0HUMAN RESOURCES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Learning Centre deploys a mix of\u00a0PPAG\u00a0staff, volunteers and consultants with extensive experience in training and capacity building in\u00a0the technical, programme and managerial aspects of\u00a0sexual and reproductive health\u00a0development. The human resources of the Learning Centre have worked with a range of institutions such as USAID, DFID, UNICEF, UNAIDS, UNFPA, JICA, JOICFP, GAC, IPPFARO\u00a0and\u00a0Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There\u00a0exists\u00a0a pool of experts who make up the Consortium of Experts who are engaged to undertake various assignments for and on behalf of the Learning Center. These experts deploy their services within the confines of the standards and principles set by the Learning Center Initiative in ensuring effectiveness and\u00a0consistency in the delivery of its assignments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Learning Center Initiative\u00a0operates as a Unit\u00a0under\u00a0PPAG governance structure. As such it forms part of the\u00a0PPAG&#8217;s\u00a0organogram\u00a0and\u00a0is governed by the PPAG council.<\/p>\n<p>The unit\u00a0is headed by\u00a0a\u00a0Manager\/Coordinator who is a\u00a0senior member of staff. The work of the coordinator is\u00a0overseen\u00a0by the Executive Director\u00a0of PPAG.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR CLIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apart from Member Associations (MAs) of IPPF, PPAG serves a range of clients including:<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0National and International Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Public Institutions<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Faith Based Organizations (FBOs)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Health Institutions<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Community-based organizations (CBOs)<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Educational Institutions<\/p>\n<p>?\u00a0Traditional Councils<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO ENGAGE THE LEARNING CENTRE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Training Courses<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interested persons or organizations should contact the Learning Centre at the address below for applications forms and other details.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Technical Assistance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Technical assistance missions are undertaken based on request and a moderately negotiated fee with clients. A scope of work to undertake the mission is required from the requesting institution.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fees and Funding<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PPAG is not profit making.\u00a0Tuition fee for training courses\u00a0covers administrative, instructional costs, materials and certificates. In some instance the fees may be used to subsidise SRH services for the poor.<\/p>\n<p>Airfare, accommodation and Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) are the responsibility of the applicant. The centre facilitates the booking of accommodation facilities for course participants.<\/p>\n<p>For technical assistance missions, the requesting organization covers cost of consultancy, airfares, accommodation, and DSA for staff of the Learning Centre assigned.<\/p>\n<p>The Learning Centre does not offer scholarships for its services.<\/p>\n<p>All applicants\/organizations\u00a0are advised to seek financial assistance from donors and agencies within their own countries. In order to reserve a place for our services, applicants must indicate confirmed funding at least four weeks before commencement of the delivery of the service of choice.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cancellation of Fees\/Refund<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Individuals and sponsoring organizations that make payments to attend PPAG Learning Centre courses are entitled to refund provided they have properly cancelled their participation by giving 72 hours notice in writing prior to the commencement of the course.
