As a result, most sexually active young people are subjected to adverse reproductive health outcomes.

According to the Ghana Health Service, 102,673 teenagers (aged between 15 and 19) were reported pregnant in 2022. The data also shows that teenage girls committed 7,617 abortions and most of these were unsafe. The national and sub-national HIV and AIDS estimates also showed that 4,869 and 1,520 of the 17,774 new HIV infections that occurred in 2023 were among youth aged 15 to 24 and adolescents between 10 to 19.

Lack of knowledge on SRHR has been identified as the underlying causes of the above challenges. As such, the Reproductive Health Education (RHED) Project seeks to advance advocacy to institutionalize RHE into the GES curricula (basic, secondary, and teacher training) for adolescents and young people in Ghana. PPAG, through this Project, will work to strengthen partnerships with GES to provide support towards the inclusion of RHE inclusion into the curricula. Institutionalizing RHE within the national education system offers a sustainable, scalable solution to ensure all adolescents, regardless of background, receive age-appropriate and evidence-based knowledge.

PPAG will advocate using a “leading from behind” approach, working through state-mandated institutions such as the National Population Council (NPC), National Youth Authority (NYA), and CSO partners. By supporting these stakeholders, PPAG will strengthen national ownership and sustainability of the initiative. The engagement process will result in a stronger political commitment, improved stakeholder collaboration, greater public acceptance, and curriculum reforms to integrate RHE.

["post-5314","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project_category-education","entry
["GET
