Community Cadre Management
Community Cadre Management under the Community System strengthen for Cadre Intervention of the Global Fund GC7 Grant
The HIV epidemic remains a pressing public health challenge in Ghana, with an estimated 334,095 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in 2023 (Ghana AIDS Commission, 2023), including 17,550 children under 15 years (5.3%), 33,245 youth aged 15–24 years (10.0%), and 283,300 adults aged 25+ years (GAC, 2023). By 2024, the figure rose slightly to 334,721(GAC, 2024), with approximately 18,000 new infections and 11,000–12,000 AIDS-related deaths recorded (UNAIDS, 2024).
Adult HIV prevalence stands at 1.5–1.7%, and women represent about two-thirds of PLHIV aged 15 and above (UNAIDS, 2024). Projections indicate that PLHIV could reach 366,650 by 2025, emphasizing the urgent need for strengthened interventions (GAC, 2023).
This project aims to accelerate progress toward the 95-95-95 targets by implementing cadre management model under the Global Fund through improving treatment adherence, expanding access through community-based care, and reducing stigma.
By addressing systemic barriers, delays in care, financial costs, distance to treatment centres, and stigma, the project will enhance service delivery, reduce new infections, and strengthen Ghana’s HIV response. This project is expected to end by December 2026.
