Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC) is a package of information and clinical services related to abortion that encompasses care throughout the reproductive life course. The services includes abortion prevention, safe abortion care, post-abortion care, and contraceptive services, delivered in a manner that respects human rights, dignity, and individual autonomy.
Pre-procedure assessment: confirm gestational age, medical history, and contraindications; offer non-judgmental counselling and informed consent.
Methods:Â medical abortion (mifepristone + misoprostol) for early pregnancy; manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) or surgical care when indicated.
Post-abortion care: manage bleeding/infection, provide analgesia, emergency contact, and offer immediate contraception (same visit).
Quality safeguards: infection prevention, trained staff, clear referral pathways for complications, and documentation.
