PPAG Launches 60th Anniversary Celebration at 59th Public Lecture

PPAG has officially launched its 60th Anniversary Celebration during its 59th Public Lecture held on Thursday, 27th August 2026, at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra. The event, which brought together policymakers, development partners, health professionals, civil society organizations, academia, media practitioners, youth leaders, volunteers, and other stakeholders, was held under the theme โ€œHealthier Lives, Stronger Communities: Empowering Ghanaโ€™s Future.โ€

The Public Lecture served as a platform to reflect on PPAGโ€™s nearly six decades of advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Ghana while exploring collaborative pathways for improving the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians. The event also marked the official commencement of activities leading to PPAGโ€™s Diamond Jubilee celebration in 2027.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, a long-serving PPAG volunteer and General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana, reflected on his journey with the Association and highlighted PPAGโ€™s enduring contribution to improving access to SRHR information and services across the country. He emphasized the importance of accurate information, youth participation, trust, and strategic partnerships in addressing health challenges and empowering communities. Dr. Ayiku also called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, academia, the private sector, civil society organizations, and the media to sustain progress in advancing SRHR and national development.

The programme featured a cultural display, spoken-word performance, solidarity messages from partners, and reflections from stakeholders on PPAGโ€™s impact and future aspirations. A key highlight of the evening was the unveiling of PPAGโ€™s 60th Anniversary logo by the National President, Mr. Gideon Leckson-Leckey, with support from PPAG Patron Dr. Bentsil, Youth Action Movement (YAM) volunteers and Senior Management Team of PPAG. The launch symbolized the beginning of a year-long journey towards celebrating six decades of service, advocacy, and leadership in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Ghana.

Speaking during the event, partners reaffirmed their commitment to working with PPAG to advance the rights and wellbeing of women and girls, young people, and marginalized populations. Their solidarity messages underscored the importance of sustained partnerships in promoting access to quality SRHR information and services and achieving healthier outcomes for all.

Since its establishment in 1967, PPAG has remained at the forefront of SRHR service delivery, advocacy, education, and youth empowerment in Ghana. Through strategic partnerships and community-based interventions, the Association has contributed significantly to improving reproductive health outcomes, influencing policies, and amplifying the voices of young people and underserved communities. The 60th Anniversary Celebration will provide an opportunity to commemorate these achievements, engage stakeholders on future priorities, and strengthen collective action towards building healthier lives and stronger communities.

As PPAG looks ahead to its Diamond Jubilee in 2027, the Association remains committed to its vision of ensuring that every individual, particularly women, girls, young people, and marginalized groups, can access quality sexual and reproductive health information and services and exercise their rights with dignity and confidence.
