Akosua Agyepong, elected youth representative to Council, Southern Zone
Educational/Professional background
Akosua Agyepong, a 20-year-old, third year student of the University of Ghana, reading a Bachelors in Family and Consumer Science, graduated from Holy Child School, Cape Coast, where she was the Assistant School Prefect, a committed chapel worker and a volunteer with the American Field Service. Akosua is, currently, the National Treasurer for the Youth Action Movement-Ghana, the youth-led and youth focused volunteer wing of PPAG.
What has she gained from being a member of PPAG?
Public speaking and a zeal for ASRHR issues! Akosua is driven and has a remarkable zeal for advancing the sexual and reproductive health and rights of the youth and the vulnerable and that drive has led her to speaking, advocating and implementing projects that are geared towards safe guarding these rights. One of such projects is the “peer2peer”, which was aimed at reducing abortion related stigma on the University of Ghana campus. She also spoke on sexual and reproductive health rights at the opening of the Africa Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Accra, Ghana and at the International Planned Parenthood Federation Africa Region’s Youth Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.
She has also been on various radio and TV shows on Uniiq FM, radio univers, Metro TV and Joy TV to talk about sexual-health related issues. Through workshops and outreach programs she organizes, Akosua passionately encourages young people, women especially to know about their sexuality, understand it and own it because she believes that sex and sexuality is power.
Akosua is currently working on two other projects; ‘My Teen Life’, a project aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy in Afro Adjei, in the Eastern Region and ‘Ira’, a social enterprise that is focused on reducing HIV, unwanted pregnancy and unsafe abortions through an on demand condom delivery service and technology.
