Ms Jane Araba Amponsah, elected Council member, Southern Zone

Educational/Professional background

Miss Amponsah is an MPhil student in Population and Health at the University of Cape Coast. Having previously obtained a Bachelor of Arts in the same programme, she has a rich knowledge in population dynamics, contemporary health issues and research methods. With her expertise as a qualitative researcher she has gained much experience in the field of data collection and has been involved in most institutional, NGO and national surveys; including the Ghana National Tuberculosis Control Programme Survey in 2014, 2015-Population-Based Survey and Rural and Agricultural Finance Programme (RAFIP) survey in 2015 and 2016.

Jane Araba Amponsah is the secretary of PPAG’s Cape Coast branch. She was a member of the executive committee of YAM at Cape Coast from 2012 to 2013, the Vice-President of the Population and Health Students’ Association (POPSA), Cape Coast from 2011 to 2012. She was a member of the ushering team, Pentecost Students’ and Associates (PENSA) and Protestants and Pentecostal Chaplaincy Committee (PPCC) of the Chaplaincy Board, University of Cape Coast, from 2009 to 2013.

What has she gained from being a member of PPAG?

Araba enjoys being a PPAG volunteer because, with my background in population and health, joining the Association has given her the platform and exposure to educate young people, especially females, on their sexual and reproductive health. Serving on the highest office of governance of the Association is also a feather in her cap.  She has benefitted from being part of the field assistants of PPAG-JOICEF Project in the Kwahu East and PPAG- Safe Motherhood Child Survival and SRH Project in the Northern region of Ghana. With these and many others, she prides myself on being part of the Association that it improving maternal health in these hard to reach areas of the country.

Miss Amponsah takes delight in advocacy in adolescent sexual and reproductive health information, right and services. Her hobbies include, but are not limited to; athletics, cooking, reading of novels and collecting qualitative data.

She  strongly aligns herself with the philosophy of ‘Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it’.
