Prof. Dickson is the President of PPAG and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Commonwealth Scholar who holds a PhD in Pharmacognosy and Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice from Kings College London, University of London. She has two Fellowships: a Commonwealth Academic Fellow of the School of Pharmacy, University College of London, United Kingdom, and a Fellow of Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Prof. Dickson has worked as an academic and researcher most of part of her working life (at KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana and Madonna University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria on part time basis); apart from having a flit in hospital practice after her training as a Pharmacist. She has over fifty (50) publications in peer reviewed International Journals to her credit and is happy to spend time in Community practice as and when space and time allows. She has special interest in the education and training of the youth and is keen to extend a helping hand to the marginalized and vulnerable people in society, hence her interest in the aims and aspirations of PPAG in ensuring that the youth and the vulnerable in society have unhindered access to sexual and reproductive health and rights information and service and are able to make informed decisions about their destinies without any discrimination whatsoever.
Prof Dickson has held several administrative positions at KNUST: These include Vice-Dean, Ag. Dean and Head of department in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is currently the chairperson for the KNUST Basic Schools Management Board and the Academic Board representative on the KNUST Senior Staff Promotions and Appointments Committee. She has served KNUST as a member of various statutory and non-statutory Committees, playing a significant role in formulating an Intellectual Property (IP) policy for the University. She has also contributed to the mounting of new programmes in the university by working on committees to review proposals for these new programmes including Diploma programme in Emergency Nursing, BSc. Degrees in Midwifery and Physician Assistant studies and assisted with finalisation of the Handbook for PhD students and Supervisors in the College of Health Sciences, KNUST.
She has offered significant contribution towards pharmaceutical education in Ghana by serving on committees reviewing the curriculum for the Pharmacy programme including the curriculum for the Top-Up Programme for Dispensing Technologists in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, KNUST.
In her professional arena, Prof. Dickson has served the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana in several capacities such as as a member of various committees including scientific committee of the 10thCommonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) conference, scientific committee of the 75th Annual General Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana held in Kumasi; Committee to edit Pharm D and HND Top-Up Programmes curricula; Committee to develop a plan and budget for the training of the Seven-star Pharmacists; Committee to review curriculum by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) for the harmonisation of Pharmacy Education in the West African Sub-Region and Committee to update documents on the Pharm D. Programme for accreditation by the National Accreditation Board. She is an active member of LAPAG (the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana) and is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Pharmacists; a member of the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) and a member of the International Pharmacists Federation.
She is excited about being a Volunteer for the simple reason that it is an exceptional opportunity to give back to society.
Professor Dickson enjoys motivating and mentoring the next generation through public speaking and has a passion of encouraging girls to take up careers in science. She also enjoys relaxing moments with the youth as she shares her faith and life experiences with them. She loves to cook and share traditional meals with friends and family at the slightest opportunity.
Prof Dickson believes that the only person that can prevent one from achieving his or her fullest potential is the individual herself. She is happily married to Nana Sarkodie Dickson and they are blessed with four (4) children.
